The Green Woodpecker

The Green Woodpecker is a sharp, satirical comedy about one man's unhinged crusade against small-town bureaucracy. When Richard Aderman, an eccentric café owner with a history of civic grudges, disrupts a city council meeting to protest restrictive zoning laws, he ignites a bizarre chain of events that sends his sleepy town into political chaos.

Tired of being ignored by the "calcified" local government, Richard rallies his loyal friend Jeff and hatches a two-pronged plan: run for mayor via a rogue write-in campaign and, if that fails, dissolve the entire town under an obscure piece of legislation called the Citizen Empowerment Act. Armed with flyers, fake ballots, and an inflated sense of justice, Richard takes to the streets waving an American flag and declaring war on the establishment.

Mayor Elena Delgado, the calm and seasoned incumbent, initially brushes off Richard's antics—until state troopers and counterfeit ballots turn his campaign into a potential legal mess. As election day nears, Richard storms back into city hall with an envelope stuffed with "evidence." He declares himself the mayor of a "new town," claiming authority using the state's Citizen Empowerment Act.

Set against the backdrop of a picturesque but politically restless Southern town, Call of the Green Woodpecker explores themes of civic discontent, delusional confidence, and the absurd lengths people will go to prove that they should be heard. It's a comedic, character-driven tale of grassroots rebellion—albeit about rich people with God complexes that are masking their cornucopia of insecurities that they're making the problem of everyday folks like you and me.
